Trace Metal Clean Lab
Temperature-controlled class 100 wet chemistry lab with seven class 10 laminar-flow fume hood workstations for ultra-clean chemistry. Separate areas with respective labware are available for high-level samples (e.g. carbonatites or barites), typical samples (e.g. basalts), and low-level samples (e.g. single mineral grain or single melt-inclusion)
Microbalances
Mettler Toledo XPE56 (1 µg readability) and Sartorious A200S (0.1 mg readability) used for weighing samples, standards, and spikes
Acid Stills
Savillex DST-1000 sub-boiling stills are used to make high-purity reagents (hydrochloric and nitric acid) for use in the clean lab. Following double-distillation reagents have sub-ppt (<1 pg/g) levels of contaminants.
